In celebration of Dr. Schär’s 100th anniversary, we launched Field100 in the beginning of 2022 in cooperation with the Laimburg Research Centre. Our mission has been to create one of the most biodiverse fields ever. In cooperation with carefully selected seed banks such as Crop Trust and Genebank Tyrol, we planted 100 diverse varieties of plants such as sorghum, quinoa and amaranth. Over the past few months, we have watched Field100 light up in a splash of colour as the seeds have grown over the summer months.  Now, fall is approaching and with it comes the harvesting of the plants. At the end of the project, we will hand over the harvested seeds to the Laimburg Research Centre to preserve them for future generations.

As part of this sustainability initiative, our Research & Development team in Trieste has initiated a broad range of projects to promote sustainable agricultural practices.

As we celebrate Dr. Schär's 100th anniversary, we are initiating the ambitious Field100 project: our aim is to cultivate one of the most biodiverse fields ever seen in the South Tyrolean Alps. To learn more about the background of Field100, we spoke with two experts during the sowing of the 100 different varieties at the beginning of April. Marina Braida, Corporate R&I Manager for Raw Materials & Agricultural Projects at Dr. Schär and agronomist Dr. Manuel Pramsohler, from the Laimburg Research Centre, are both deeply involved in Field100 and explain to us the significance of the project.

The year 2022 is a very special one, as our history began exactly 100 years ago in the heart of the beautiful Alps! Since our founding in 1922, we have remained committed to making nutrition inclusive and enjoyable for everyone. That is why our gluten free brand Schär is calling for a new Christmas tradition: We invite everyone to bake gingerbread cookies with different shapes, ages, genders, styles and sizes in order to celebrate the most inclusive Christmas!

We accompany our products throughout their entire life cycle. Thanks to close cooperation with scientists, farmers and millers, we are involved in the filiera from seed research to the supermarket.

In December 2020, Dr. Philipp Schoeller took over the role of CEO at Dr. Schär, succeeding founder Ulrich Ladurner. Philipp Schoeller, who was previously Vice President at the world’s largest chocolate manufacturer Barry Callebaut, has a clear vision of the company’s future: “Our values are responsibility – progress – proximity. These are the guiding principles of our actions. We therefore aspire to be the market leader with our respective brands. This means strong and fast innovation. We need to identify trends early and implement them faster. In doing so, we will become more international, while at the same time taking local needs into account. This is only possible with a strong local presence and local teams,” says the CEO.

Dr. Schär and Desitin, a fully integrated pharmaceutical company focused on CNS (Central Nercvous System) disease and rare diseases, announced today that they have joined forces to promote the Kanso product portfolio. With this agreement, both companies aim to advance the dietary treatment of drug-resistant epilepsy or other conditions for which the ketogenic diet is recommended.
