For those living with coeliac disease, eating gluten-free isn’t a choice – it’s a daily necessity. But all too often, it can mean that something has to be sacrificed – taste, variety or nutritional balance
At Dr. Schär, we believe that no-one should have to make this compromise. That’s why we’ve developed our Quality Commitment – a document that translates our values into concrete actions, with the aim to create nutritionally balanced and tastier Schär gluten-free products.
To mark Coeliac Disease Awareness Day, we want to share what “quality” truly means to us – a concept that goes beyond safety to embrace nutritional balance, sustainability, and everyday wellbeing. Quality has always been our hallmark. Today, we’re reaffirming this commitment underlining our nutritional guidelines, designed to better meet the needs of those who choose us every day.
Developed by our Nutrition Service team, the Quality Commitment sets strict standards for the composition of our Schär products, while maintaining excellent taste: fibre and high-quality protein; balancing of sugar, salt, and saturated fat upon nutritional needs. We’re already seeing the first results:
- We achieved our target in the biscuit and cakes and muffins category being 10.5% and 6.8% below the set limit.
- Most of our best-selling breads contain less than 1g of salt per 100g, while many of our salty snacks already contain less than 1.75g of salt per 100g.
- Our multigrain products contain at least 6g of fibre per 100g.
These figures reflect a genuine commitment, starting with the careful selection of raw materials. But we’re going further. We’ve chosen naturally gluten free ingredients – such as millet, sorghum, lentils, maize, rice, and buckwheat – from a traceable, safe, and sustainable supply chain. We don’t use artificial flavours, and additives are kept to an absolute minimum – only when truly necessary. Additionally, thanks to continuous research and innovation in raw materials and packaging machinery, Schär gluten-free breads contain no artificial preservatives.
