  3. Dr Schar Institute Nutrition Project Award 2018 – Winner Announced!

We are delighted to announce that the winner of this year’s Dr Schär Institute Nutrition Project Award is Dr Leda Roncoroni from the Policlinico di Milano (University Hospital of Milan), Italy. Dr Roncoroni plans to use her 15,000 euro prize to fund research that considers the impact of FODMAP restriction on gut microflora amongst coeliac patients with persistent functional gut symptoms. Jacqueline Pante, Head of Nutrition Services at Dr Schär said “we were very pleased with the number, variety and quality of submissions received for this year’s award, we received proposals from Italy, Spain, Germany and the UK, each one detailing an inspiring project or research proposal that had the potential to make a real difference to patients suffering from a gastroenterological condition. The final decision was extremely difficult for our expert judging panel.” Closer to home, there was good representation from the UK amongst the submissions, including proposals from Professor Brian Power from University College London and Stephanie Turner from Glan Clwyd Hospital, both of whom were selected as finalists for this year’s award.

We look forward to sharing news of Dr Roncoroni’s research progress in due course.
