Beyond coeliac disease: the role of gliadins
Between 2024 and October 2025, a study investigated the inflammatory role of gliadins in people with coeliac disease, with a particular focus on those living with autoimmune thyroid diseases. The research revealed that almost one in five individuals has both conditions, often with a prior thyroid diagnosis. People affected by both conditions experience more severe symptoms, such as abdominal pain and fatigue, highlighting the importance of targeted screening for at-risk groups and paving the way for new prevention and treatment strategies.
