Diet and chemotherapy: a potential new synergy

The CALIMERO study (CALorie restriction with chemo- and IMmunotherapy in ER-negative and HER2-negative early breast cancer – a randomised trial) involves 50 women with triple-negative breast cancer, randomly assigned to two groups. The aim is to determine whether a low-calorie diet enriched with MCT, followed for a few days before and after chemotherapy and immunotherapy, can make the treatment more effective and reduce side effects. Researchers expect that participants following this diet will show a reduction of more than 30% in the tumour marker Ki-67, indicating a slowdown in the growth of cancer cells. An important step towards improving quality of life and offering renewed hope to many patients.
