Dr. Schär was founded in the heart of the Alps. Since 1981, the heart of the company has been in Postal, near Merano: the headquarters host the global functions for all areas of expertise and the production facility where iconic products such as Wholesome Loaf are created. A short distance away, in Laives, is the production site specialising in the manufacture and quality control of rolls, wraps, pizza bases and flatbreads. The R&D Centre, the hub of innovation for gluten-free products and special nutrition needs, is located within the AREA Science Park in Trieste. In Borgo Valsugana, Trentino, the Dr. Schär site occupies the former Gourmet Italia area, acquired in 2013. Dedicated to frozen ready meals, the site was expanded in 2015 to host the Pizza Centre for Schär gluten-free pizzas and, since 2018, has included a new building for the production of bread and rolls.
The main German site is in Dreihausen, in the state of Hessen where, since 2006, a production facility fully dedicated to gluten-free manufacturing has been in operation.
