Since the start of 2026, our German plants in Dreihausen and Apolda have taken a significant step forward in our shared commitment to tackling climate change. We’ve switched to 100% renewable electricity, certified to TÜV SÜD CMS Standard 93 and registered with the German Federal Environment Agency.
This move allows us to completely eliminate indirect emissions [Scope 2] linked to the electricity we purchase in Germany, and has helped us reduce direct and indirect emissions [Scope 1 and 2] across our global operations by 17%. This means we’ve already surpassed more than half of the 30% reduction target we set for the next five years. It’s a milestone we’re truly proud of — and one that inspires us to push even further.
This achievement is built on a pioneering and carefully designed energy model that combines solar power generated by our own photovoltaic system with energy from certified suppliers via a brand new solar park, along with additional Guarantees of Origin from Germany (HKN). Thanks to this approach, we cover around 7,985 MWh each year, significantly reducing our carbon footprint by saving approximately 2,380 tons of CO₂.
Germany follows five other sites where 100% clean electricity is already part of daily life.
- In Italy, our plants in Postal, Laives and Borgo Valsugana draw on a mix of solar and certified green energy, collectively saving over 4,300 tons of CO₂.
- In Curitiba, Brazil, our production plant runs on renewables such as wind, biomass, hydroelectric and solar power, cutting emissions by 16 tons of CO₂.
- In Klagenfurt, Austria, we continue to uphold our commitment to sustainability by sourcing electricity from renewable energy sources such as biomass, hydropower, wind power and other renewables.
But this is only the beginning.
Looking ahead, we’re firmly committed to reducing our emissions by 30% by 2030, guided by a climate strategy that goes far beyond simply sourcing green, certified electricity. Our plan includes expanding our photovoltaic capacity, streamlining and improving our logistics and taking concrete actions such as upgrading cooling systems to boost energy efficiency and replacing all halogen lamps with LEDs — going above and beyond regulatory requirements.
At Dr. Schär, sustainability isn’t just a goal — it’s a guiding principle behind every choice and investment we make. Because caring for our planet means caring for people and the future we want to build for generations to come. And we’re ready to play our part, with passion, dedication and responsibility.
